Sharmila and Nicolaj’s Hindu wedding celebrations at Ponsbourne Park hotel

Sharmila and Nicolaj are an incredible couple, they are truly made for each other and they are as crazy as each other and I was truly honoured to be part of their celebrations.

I still remember our first call together and I knew straight away that their wedding was going to be a crazy wedding full of surprises. We spoke for a Long time and it was like I was chatting to friends. The first photo they sent of them was a full-on Zoolander style pout and I cracked up laughing! I knew they were nutters…like me!

The first time I met Sharmila and Nicolaj was on their preshoot and we gelled so well. We discovered a mutual love/obsession of Alphonso mangos (The best in the world…no question!) and I could see why they are the perfect match for each other. I wanted their pre wedding portraits to show their fun personalities and this is exactly what we got! I was full on excited for the big day.

Sharmila and Nicolaj wedding day took place at Ponsbourne Park Hotel near Potters Bar. The Hindu wedding took place outside and the setup looked stunning and I knew the day would be something special!

When I saw Sharmila in the bridal suite, I walked in and it was pure chaos…I loved it! So many little moments happening and I wanted to getting fully absorbed to tell the story of the day! Beyonce was coming through the speakers so amongst all the madness, we were bopping our heads. I loved seeing how the bridesmaids were getting ready at the same time as the bride and the small interactions between everyone was fun to capture.

Sharmila gifted Nicolaj with a killer pair of Air Jordan’s and I was there to capture his reaction to them, they looked awesome and ended up being his shoes for the reception (very cool!)

It was fun photographing Nicolaj and his family (while they were getting ready), everyone was speaking in Danish and even I attempted to say ‘Good morning’ in Danish (my pronunciation was terrible). I had no idea what was being said, but it made me fully focus on the moments that were unfolding and I loved it.

The first wedding ceremony was a traditional South Indian Hindu ceremony and it’s quite different to the Gujarati wedding ceremonies I usually document. The ceremony was full on vibrancy and multiple things happening but what I really loved capturing were the little moments between the family members and the couple, the small head touches, hugs, glances and the odd tear, all while documenting the ceremony being performed!

The civil marriage took place in the afternoon which was simple and elegant. Sharmila and Nicolaj wore match Air Jordan’s which was brilliant! 10 out of 10 for comfy wedding shoes, haha!

Following the civil, they had an awesome evening reception party full of surprise dance acts, emotional speeches, lots of kisses on the head table (and under!) feet stamping, glass tapping and a night of dancing which started off with Nicolaj’s socks being chopped off by his friends. It was great to see (and capture) so many fun wedding traditions from both cultures.

Sharmila, Nicolaj, I want to say a HUGE ‘Tak’ to you both for having me there to document your wedding celebrations, I had an incredible day and this is just a small selection of what I saw. They mean everything to me and I hope you love them as much as I do!

Happy viewing and see you soon x
